CASA DE CABOCLO

The conflict of religious intolerance in northeast Brazil unfolds through the experiences of Dandha, a twenty-eight year-old descendant of slaves and a practitioner of Candomblé, a religious belief system passed to Dandha from her African ancestors.

The terreiros, where Candomblé is practiced, are under siege today from a group of Christian evangelicals who are attempting to convert the populace to their brand of Christianity. Fundamentalist followers periodically bring crosses and bibles into the terreiros.

When one member of a terreiro is killed as a result of an evangelical assault, Dandha and other members of her Candomble community organize a four-bus caravan and travel to Brasilia, where they address the full congress presided over by President Lula.
